Sydney Thunder’s five-match winning streak came to an end after they lost to the Perth Scorchers while defending a big total of 179. Both the sides will once again face off on Sunday at the same venue in Perth. The Scorchers chased down the target of 180 with six wickets and one ball to spare to record the first ever 170+ run chase in WBBL history. Meg Lanning struck a 40-ball 76 with 12 fours and a six to put on a 93-run opening stand with Elyse Villani in only 9.2 overs and ease the chase. Lanning now has scores of 70, 75 and 76 in her last three innings in this tournament.

The win against the Thunder was 5th of the tournament for the Scorchers who need a maximum of three more wins from the next four matches. On the other hand, the Sydney Thunder are a win away from claiming the top stop from the Sydney Sixers once again. Rachael Haynes’s fifty in her 50th WBBL game and quick-fire knocks from Rachel Priest (43) and Harmanpreet Kaur (45) took Thunder to 179/5 in their 20 overs. Thunder would have hoped to add at least ten runs to their total as they made only 13 runs from their last two overs that included six dot balls.

Expert Advice:

Meg Lanning and Harmanpreet Kaur’s credits have been reduced to 10 from 10.5 for this match. This gives an opportunity to pick both players as well as Elyse Villani (10), Rachael Haynes (9.5) and Stafanie Taylor (10.5). A maximum of three players could be fit into the XI during the Saturday game due to the higher credit standings.

Power Picks:

In a team of star Internationals, Nicole Carey hasn’t hogged the limelight. However, the all-rounder has the ability to contribute with both bat and ball. In the game against Scorchers, he picked up two wickets while the remaining bowlers claimed only one. Piepa Cleary’s inclusion did make a difference for Scorchers as she picked up two crucial wickets.

Captain and Vice-Captain Selection:

Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani and Stafanie Taylor once again stand among the first preferred multiplier options. Lanning and Villani made fifties while Stafanie contributed 24 with the bat before going wicket-less. The likes of Rachael Haynes, Rachel Priest, Graham and Bolton will in the next set. Due to the form of Haynes and Priest, Harmanpreet might not get a chance to bat long.

Best Playing XI:

Keeper – Rachel Priest

Batters – Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Harmanpreet Kaur, Rachael Haynes

All-rounders – Stafanie Taylor, Nicola Carey, Piepa Cleary

Bowlers – Taneale Peschel, Sam Bates, Lisa Griffith

Risky Playing XI:
