The entire cricket fraternity was left shocked on Friday after the news of more than dozen Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad members testing Covid-19 positive started doing rounds on the internet. It was a huge blow for the Chennai franchise who were slated to kick off their pre-season camp on Friday.

MS Dhoni-led CSK have three IPL titles under their belt and are one of the favourite sides to clinch the trophy this year. However, the COVID-19 news has left CSK camp in complete state on shock and panic. Moreover, their vice-captain Suresh Raina has also decided to fly back to India due to personal reasons.

A CSK squad member, on strict condition of anonymity, has revealed that CSK are currently in a ‘complete state of shock‘ with the development. He even revealed that 13-14 members of CSK squad have tested positive and some results are still awaited.

“We are in a complete state of shock and very scared. We took every possible precaution and followed the BCCI guidelines to hilt, still virus has stuck the team”, said the CSK squad member to InsideSport.

“Honestly, we are not very clear about it. No one from the team management has officially informed us anything. But what we are hearing is 13-14 members of our entire squad have tested positive and some results are still awaited,” he further said.

I think Chahar is one of the players: CSK team member

Moreover, the source also revealed that 2-3 players might’ve also tested positive. However, he refrained from revealing the identity of the members who’ve tested COVID-19 positive. But he did reveal that Deepak Chahar is one of the players who’ve tested positive.

“I think Chahar is one of the players”, confirmed the CSK member. “We don’t have much knowledge on who exactly has tested positive. I am hearing 2-3 squad members, few support staff members and our CEO’s family member has tested positive”, he further revealed.

The entire CSK squad is in isolation currently for the next 7 days as the news certainly has raised questions over the feasibility of the much-awaited league. Considering the COVID-19 situation across the globe, every IPL franchise was asked to stay in a bio-security bubble during their two-month IPL journey. All eight franchises have been staying in different hotels post their arrival in the UAE.
