The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side went down to the Punjab Kings (PBKS) outfit in a low-scoring thriller on 25th September 2021. The SRH side was set a target of 126, but the ‘Orange Army’ batsmen struggled on a slow pitch, and Kane Williamson and his men could only manage to post 120/7 on the board in their allotted 20 overs.

And, the Head Coach of the SRH franchise, Trevor Bayliss has admitted that the SRH batsmen are not playing with confidence. Adding that the ‘Orange Army’ has now lost most of their matches batting second, Bayliss opined that the SRH willow wielders made a lot of mistakes.

Bayliss further stated that while chasing a small total, knocking the ball down the ground would have been the ideal approach. The 58-year-old also said that the SRH side did not play good cricket.

“Yeah, look I do not think that our batters are playing with confidence obviously. We have lost five games under 10 runs and most of them batting second. So, yeah, we made a lot of mistakes.

Knocking the ball down the ground would have been the way to go, chasing a small target on a wicket like that, you would like to get off to a good start with the new ball but unfortunately, it went the other way. In the end, we did not play good cricket,” admitted Trevor Bayliss in the post-match press conference.

We have to turn things around quickly: Trevor Bayliss

Trevor Bayliss further opined that whenever the SRH side has played well in the past, the batsmen have always given the side a good start at the top of the order. Adding that in the match against the Punjab side the experienced batsmen in the SRH batting lineup made a lot of mistakes, Bayliss concluded by stating that Kane Williamson and his men will have to turn things around quickly.

“When we have played well in the past, we have got off to a good start at the top of the innings. The young guys in the middle-order have been exposed to a certain degree, but against Punjab Kings, experienced batters in the middle-order made mistakes. We have a game in a couple of days so we have to turn it around quickly,” concluded Bayliss.
