The T20 World Cup will be held in the months of October and November in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this year. And, the Australian cricket team has never won the tournament till now, and the players will be itching to get their hands on the trophy this time around.

And, Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell is confident that the kangaroos can go ahead and win the T20 World Cup trophy this year. The Aussie all-rounder added that the Aaron Finch-led side has a great squad with a lot of experience.

Maxwell also reckoned that if one or two Australian players find their form, then it will be difficult to stop the Australian juggernaut, and further opined that the Australian side is filled with a number of match winners.

“One hundred percent we can win it. I think we’ve got a great squad, and we’ve got a lot of experience in there. If you can get one or two players that are running hot at the start of the tournament, it can be hard to stop. I certainly feel like we’ve got more than enough match-winners in our side to do that,” said Glenn Maxwell as quoted by Cricket.com.au.

The thought of going into another bubble was really hard: Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell further added that some Australian cricketers took time off from cricket because the thought of constantly shifting from one bubble to another was ‘hard’. Maxwell even stated that it starts taking a toll on the players.

“The thought of going into another hard bubble was just really hard for people. Speaking to the guys that have just come back from Bangladesh and West Indies, they got the question put to them ‘if you had another tour in three weeks what would you think?’ and they understood why we took that time off.

It’s not easy going from hard bubble into a two-week quarantine and then straight back into a hard bubble. That really takes its toll on some of the players,” said Maxwell.

The 32-year-old Maxwell also said that even if the Australian players are not featuring in the playing XI for their respective IPL sides, they are still training with the best players in the world and the Australian side will surely hit the ground running during the T20 World Cup this year. Maxwell concluded by adding that taking part in the IPL will be valuable for the Australian cricketers.

“Even if they’re not playing (IPL matches), they’re training with some of the best players in the world and getting used to it and hopefully we’re able to hit the ground running in the World Cup. I think it’s a really good lead-in for the guys who are going to be over there. To be able to train in those facilities and acclimatise, it’s going to be hot, and to have that extra month there I think it will be valuable for those guys,” concluded Maxwell.
