As India and England face off against each other in the four-match Test series, there is no doubt that the contest will be a mouth-watering one for the fans to watch. Jofra Archer, one of England’s premier fast bowlers in a recent interaction revealed how the quality of the English spin attack can hurt the hosts in an unexpected way.

The last time, England visited India was back in 2016-17. At that time, India had beaten the visitors 4-0. Throughout the series, England players failed to read the spin variations on display by Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. However, England’s own spinners couldn’t get a lot out of the wickets which offered somewhat good spin for the bowlers.

Archer, in a daily column, explained how his experience in the IPL might not come in handy during this series. He compared the way batters approach the game in T20 and Test cricket. But, he ended up making a bold statement that the Indian spinners won’t be able to out-spin the England spinners.

“I’ve played lots of Indian Premier League here but nothing in terms of first-class cricket, so the challenges of bowling with a red ball will become clearer. In the IPL the batters have to come at you, whereas in Test cricket they can sit on you for a full session if they want and if the pitch is dead there is nothing you can do about it.

So let’s hope we get some good wickets with a little bit of pace for the bowlers. Or even some turn, because if they spin, the matches will not be one-sided. We have good spinners in our squad and India won’t out-spin us,” wrote Archer in his column for Daily Mail. England have Moeen Ali, Dominic Bess and Jack Leach as their spinners for the Indian tour.

The young pacer will be touring India for the first time while playing for England. But, he has played for Rajasthan Royals since the 2018 season of the IPL. He went on to praise the young Indian team for winning the series against Australia recently by a 2-1 margin.

“Their 2-1 win showed that you cannot underestimate any of the leading teams in Test cricket, even when some of their best players are missing. In fact, the one thing that impressed me most about India was that everyone in their team chipped in. If it wasn’t the guy who performed well in the previous innings, it was someone else,” added Archer.
