Mumbai Indians who are known to be slow starters in the Indian Premier League (IPL) lived up to their reputation. However, now that they’re back to winning ways with a significant run chase against Chennai Super Kings, the team raring to go. With the business end of the IPL here, Mumbai look set to go guns blazing as they need to win almost all their remaining matches to have a chance at qualification for the playoffs.

Ahead of the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, MI opener Suryakumar Yadav expressed confidence in the team. He has displayed some tremendous form for the defending champions. He is their highest run-getter this season having piled on 274 runs. Yadav’s partnership with Evin Lewis has given the team strong starts and that has been one of the positives for the otherwise struggling side.

We will look to ride the momentum

The 27-year-old expressed confidence over the team’s recent performances. Surya asserted that skipper Rohit Sharma stepping up in the last game was really important for Mumbai Indians. He wished to see more of it in the upcoming games.

“It’s good we are coming here on the back of a win. We will look to ride the momentum. It was a great thing that Rohit Sharma put his hand up in the pressure situation. We are very happy. In the coming games, we can see more of it,” he said.

Winning is our priority and we are raring to go

Having lost five games out of seven, Mumbai certainly didn’t seem in a great patch. The only positive for them was that all games were close and could’ve gone either way. Yadav highlighted that MI’s positive run rate could be key for them as he looked forward to winning the next contest against RCB.

“We took the losses in our stride instead of brooding on them. The post-match talks were quite positive because the tournament didn’t get over with those games. We watched RCB’s match against KKR on Sunday. Every game is important for us. We have a good net run rate and we’ll try to maintain it. Winning is our priority and we are raring to go.”
