Apart from the quality cricketing action that India and Australia provide, another facet that makes any contest between the two sides very interesting is the banter that goes on in the field. A day of Test cricket is long and arduous, and a touch of banter is something that always spices up things a little in the middle.

And, that is exactly what Marnus Labuschagne did during the course of the 45 overs that India batted on the second day of the ongoing Sydney Test. Fielding at short-leg, Labuschagne was always in the ears of the Indian batsmen, taking funny jibes at them.

He started by asking Shubman Gill, as to who his favorite cricketer was, between Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Gill replied back that he would give his answer after the match. Marnus Labuschagne was then behind Rohit Sharma as well, and his banters with him are extremely funny and engaging.

“This is a catch. A Catch here,” he exclaimed while fielding at short leg when Rohit was on strike. Then, there was a ball from Josh Hazlewood that kept low which Rohit played out safely. “Aww that’s a lowey,” shrieked Marnus Labuschagne.

“What did you do in quarantine,” Labuschagne asks Rohit

Also, it is a well-known fact that Rohit was unable to play the first two Tests, and was in quarantine for 14 days before the Third Test got underway in Sydney. Marnus Labuschagne took this matter up with the ‘Hitman’ as well. “What did you do in quarantine,” Labuschagne further probed Rohit. The commentators could not control their laughter.

But, Rohit Sharma did not respond to the 26-year-old at all and was focused on the job at hand. And, there was the final piece of the action for the day from Australian, when he begged Nathan Lyon to throw the ball to him after the off-spinner had collected the ball at cover. All in all, Marnus Labuschagne’s banter was friendly, and it was thoroughly entertaining for the fans.

An intriguing third Day’s play awaits the fans

As far as the Test match is concerned, it is pretty evenly poised at the moment. Australia finished their first innings with a score of 338, with Steve Smith leading from the front with the willow, scoring a magical 226-ball 131. In reply, the Indians ended the day at 96/2 after 45 overs, with two of India’s most experienced campaigners, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane occupying the crease.

Shubman Gill scored his first fifty in Test match cricket and provided a good start to India at the top of the order. The third day’s play will be extremely intriguing and crucial, with both sides looking to outplay each other.
