In a match where the bowlers were taken the cleaners, Pakistan beat South Africa with 4 wickets to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match T20I series. A total of 377 runs were scored in 39.5 overs in the first T20I, as the willow wielders went hammer and tongs after the bowlers at the Wanderers. But in the end, it was the visitors who drew first blood.
On the batting front, both sides will not have much to complain about. For South Africa, Aiden Markram and skipper Heinrich Klaasen looked in excellent touch and both slammed quick-fire half-centuries in the first encounter. Pite van Biljon and Janneman Malan also helped themselves to impressive cameos.
For Pakistan, while Mohammad Rizwan was the man who anchored the run chase, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman got off to starts. Faheem Ashraf’s blistering 14-ball 30 played a crucial role in Pakistan winning the first rubber. On the bowling side of things, both sides will have some work to do.
Even though the boundary dimensions were small, as many as 7 out of the 12 bowlers who rolled their arm over from both sides in the first T20I went at an economy rate of more than 10 runs an over. While the visitors will be looking to take a 2-0 lead in the second T20I, South Africa will be desperately looking to draw level.
Pitch and Conditions
The second match too will be played at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. The pitch is an absolute belter of a surface for batting, the boundaries are on the shorter side, and we can expect another run feast.
