Australia and West Indies are all geared up to lock horns in the three-match ODI to be played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados. Prior to the series, the Aussies have been dealt with a body blow.

Aaron Finch aggravated his knee injury and has been ruled out of the upcoming games. Alex Carey has been named as the skipper for the three matches. Carey has prior experience of captaincy, having led Australia A, South Australia and Adelaide Strikers in the popular Big Bash League.

The Aussies are already short of firepower and Finch’s exclusion will deplete them further. For the hosts, it’s yet not known whether Kieron Pollard will make a comeback or not.

Jason Holder is also set to return after being rested. The pitch in Barbados has generally been batting friendly with an average score of around 250. The chasing teams have tasted loads of success at the very venue.

Playing combination for WI vs AUS

West Indies

The series is a chance for Shai Hope to show that he belongs at the highest level for the Caribbean team. Nicholas Pooran was a tad off-colour with the bat in the T20Is and he will want to find some form. In the bowling department, Sheldon Cottrell and Alzarri Joseph are likely to share the new ball. Left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein should get a chance, especially after how he performed earlier this year.

Predicted XI

Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (WK), Shimron Hetmyer, Darren Bravo/Roston Chase, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Mohammed/Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein, Sheldon Cottrell

Bench: Jason Mohammed/Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo/Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Anderson Phillip

Australia

In Finch’s absence, Matthew Wade should get a chance to open the batting along with Josh Philippe. Mitchell Marsh should stay at no.3 after his show in the T20Is. Marsh’s performance will also be critical with the ball in hand. It will also be interesting to see how Carey responds after being appointed the skipper. In the bowling department, the onus will mostly be on Starc, Hazlewood and Zampa.

Predicted XI

Matthew Wade, Josh Philippe, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner/Ben McDermott, Alex Carey (C and WK), Ashton Agar/Daniel Christian, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa

Bench:  Aaron Finch, Ashton Agar/Daniel Christian, Ashton Turner/Ben McDermott, Wes Agar, Riley Meredith, Mitchell Swepson, Jason Behrendorff
