West Indies are ranked 10th in the ICC rankings for T20I teams, though they beat Sri Lanka 2-1 earlier this year at home. Moreover, they also have some of their big names back in the mix for the five-match T20I series against South Africa that is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, June 26.

All the matches will be played at the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s Grenada. The Proteas, on the other hand, have had a rough time in the shorter format in the last few months.

Having lost both their T20I series against Pakistan, Temba Bavuma and Co would be itching to make a comeback with some wins. However, prior to the series, they have been dealt with a blow after Dwaine Pretorius tested positive for COVID-19.

Wiaan Mulder has been roped in as his replacement. The visitors, in the meantime, would be pretty high on confidence after comprehensively winning the two-match Test series 2-0.

Playing combination for WI vs SA

West Indies

Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis are most likely to open the batting. Both batters had a tough time in the series against the Lankans and would want to make amends.

Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, and Kieron Pollard make up the middle-order. Pollard was destructive in the Lanka T20Is earlier this year. Andre Russell’s return will strengthen both their batting and bowling department.

Dwayne Bravo also needs to bring forth all his experiences. The Caribbean team also has an efficient spinner in Fabian Allen, who can also chip in with the bat. Fidel Edward’s comeback is also one of the talking points.

Predicted XI

Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Lendl Simmons, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Sheldon Cottrell, Fidel Edwards

Bench: Hayden Walsh Jr, Akeal Hosein, Oshane Thomas, Kevin Sinclair, Obed McCoy, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Fletcher

South Africa

Quinton de Kock should return to the playing eleven as he’s set to feature in his maiden T20I in 2021. Aiden Markram played brilliantly in the T20I series against Pakistan after he opened the batting.

The management would be spoiled for choices between him and Reeza Hendricks. Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje are expected to form a lethal pair in the bowling department. Tabraiz Shamsi’s role will also be critical.

In Pretorius’ absence, the Proteas might go in with one of George Linde and Bjorn Fortuin. Van der Dussen and Miller need to play their roles as well.

Predicted XI

Quinton de Kock (wk), Aiden Markram/Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, George Linde/ Bjorn Fortuin, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje

Bench: Janneman Malan, George Linde/Bjorn Fortuin, Lizaad Williams, Kyle Verreynne, Lungi Ngidi, Sisanda Magala, Aiden Markram/Reeza Hendricks, Wiaan Mulder
