After a complete annihilation in the T20I series against West Indies, Pakistan will have their backs against the walls, when they face their counterpart in the first of the five-match ODI series on Wednesday, July 7. What was supposed to be an evenly-contested series, between the ever-so-improving Pakistan and unpredictable West Indies, turned to be a fairly one-sided affair in the end.

West Indies skipper Stafanie Taylor created history by becoming only the second player after Anisa Mohammad to take a hat trick in T20Is. Apart from Taylor, Hayley Matthews, Shamillia Connell, and Deandra Dottin had a good outing in the shortest format. While for the visitors, no one stood up to pose any sort of challenge whatsoever. The Women in Green were good in patches but collectively failed to click as a unit.

Teenage sensation Ayesha Naseem showed her glimpse of potential to the world by scoring 46, but was found wanting in the other two games. Skipper Javeria Khan, who is otherwise very consistent, had a horrible outing with the bat in hand, as she scored 7, 0, and 6. But all is not lost for them, as the bowlers led by Fatima Sana and Diana Baig stepped up to stop West Indies batters from running away with the game.

A change in a format often helps the team in a change of fortunes too. With ODI being a 50-over format, Pakistan batters can play a bit more cautiously, before teeing off in the end.

The first ODI is set to be played on Wednesday, July 7 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. Both the teams will look to make a good start in a five-match ODI series, which will be ideal preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022.
