The first ODI between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh on Friday turned out to be a completely one-sided affair. The hosts lost the game by 155 runs after being bowled out for only 121 runs in 28.5 overs. Liton Das’s century picked the bones out of the home team’s bowling attack in the first second.

In their run-chase, Zimbabwe were blown away by a storm named Shakib Al Hasan. The left-arm spinner picked up a five-wicket haul and also bowled three maidens. The second match is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 18 at the Harare Sports Club and it’s a must-win affair for the hosts.

Timycen Maruma, one of their batters, injured his hamstring and didn’t play the previous game. It remains to be seen if he can recover in time for the all-important contest. Bangladesh, on the other hand, would be happy that the bowling unit stood up in the absence of Mustafizur Rahman.

If Maruma doesn’t play, either Milton Shumba or Sikandar Raza should come into the playing eleven. Brendan Taylor got a start and threw his wicket away. In the bowling department, Luke Jongwe picked up three wickets in the first game. He got the apt support from Blessing Muzarabani, who got two scalps. Muzarabani also bowled a couple of wickets. The other players can’t afford to drop their guard either.

Predicted XI

Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wesley Madhevere, Brendan Taylor (C), Dion Myers, Sikandar Raza/Milton Shumba, Ryan Burl, Regis Chakabva (WK), Luke Jongwe, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Tendai Chatara

Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal couldn’t open his account in the previous game and he will want to make amends. Shakib did well with the ball, and he will love to get his form back with the bat in hand. Mohammad Mithun needs to find a way of scoring runs. Afif Hossain didn’t look off-colour by any means. Mehidy Hasan Miraz got only three overs to bowl and he will want to add to his tally in the wickets’ column.

Predicted XI

Tamim Iqbal (C), Liton Das (WK), Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mehidy Hasan, Shoriful Islam
