The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixtures for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. Both the men’s as well as the women’s schedules and groups were announced. Defending champions of the Women’s tournament, Australia are placed in the group along with India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and a qualifier team. Alyssa Healy and Alex Blackwell shared their thoughts about the tough battle against India.
Blackwell heaped a lot of praise on Indian T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur. She termed Harman as unstoppable. Moreover, the former skipper even predicted that India will make it to the final. “India are positioned to make a final. Sometimes we see Harmanpreet Kaur play within herself. But when she goes out there 100 per cent, she has proven to be very hard to stop,” she said.
India are such a powerhouse in the cricketing world
Alyssa Healy, the ICC Player of the Tournament in 2018 warned her teammates about the threat from Harman. The Southern Stars will take on the India Women on 21 February 2020 at the Spotless Stadium. This is also the home ground for Harmanpreet Kaur in the BBL.
“When I saw the fixtures announcement, I said, ‘Damnit!’ I was hoping to avoid them. India are such a powerhouse in the cricketing world, on the rise in the women’s game, which I think is special,” said Healy.
“They have got some serious players which they are going to unleash. It is Harmanpreet Kaur’s home ground (from the Women’s Big Bash League), the Spotless Stadium, so definitely one to watch,” she added.
Meanwhile, Australian skipper Meg Lanning expressed excitement about the home World Cup. However, she also added that there will be a lot of pressure apart from the excitement. Lanning led the Aussies to triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2018 that was played in the Caribbean.
