When I was captain, I feared Rohit Sharma more than anyone else: Gautam Gambhir

A team needs 4-5 plans to keep players like Rohit and Rahul at bay, said Gambhir. On the other hand, Gambhir believes Virat and De Villiers could be dealt with two plans at most.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir, known for speaking his heart out, has said that it’s fearful to come up against players like KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma as opposed to batsmen like Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Gambhir’s comments came after Rahul smashed a 69-ball-132 against RCB yesterday in Dubai to steer Kings XI Punjab to an emphatic 97-run victory.

Gambhir doesn’t hold back from sharing his views, no matter how controversial they turn out to be. He has now compared Rahul and Rohit with Virat and De Villiers. According to the cricketer-turned-politician, it’s not easy to plan things against players like Rahul who are great on both sides of the wicket, and same is the case against Rohit.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma can hit the ball on both sides: Gautam Gambhir

“KL Rahul is one those very few batsmen, who can hit the ball on both sides of the wicket. Rohit Sharma is one and Rahul is another. Nothing to take away from Virat Kohli, but he is a leg-side dominant batsman.KL Rahul is very difficult to bowl when he is in that kind of mood as you can’t the pitch the ball, can’t give him width, can’t bowl in the stumps as he has a wide range like Rohit. When he is in good mood, he is impossible to stop.

When I was captain, I feared Rohit Sharma more than anyone else as you got to have four-five plans against him and that wasn’t the case against Virat or eve an AB de Villiers. Against Virat and ABD, you can just have two plans and AB might be Mr. 360 but you can bowl short balls against him and he has struggled against it, so it’s a nightmare to bowl against KL Rahul,” Gambhir said in a video interview with ESPNCricinfo.

Royal Challengers Bangalore had a woeful outing against KXIP on Thursday. Their flaws in bowling set-up were evident as they leaked 80 runs in the last five overs and let the Punjab side amass a dominant 206-run total on the board. RCB’s batting top-order, including Virat and De Villiers, also failed to deliver as they lost their first five wickets on 57.
