India spin star Yuzvendra Chahal has welcomed Glenn Maxwell to Royal Challengers Bangalore in his own unique way. The Bangalore-based franchise shelled out a whopping amount of Rs 14.25 crores in the recently-concluded IPL 2021 auction to secure the services of the Australia superstar. Maxwell was the third most expensive buy in the latest IPL auction.

After releasing the likes of Moeen Ali and Chris Morris, the Royal Challengers needed a good all-rounder in their squad and they went all out for Maxwell. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings were also keen to secure the services of Maxwell but in the end, Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated them to sign the Australian.

Thanks to the intense bidding war, Maxwell ended up enjoying his biggest payday in an IPL auction. And it did not take Yuzvendra Chahal long to welcome Maxwell to his new IPL franchise. Chahal and Maxwell were previously IPL teammates when they had plied their trade for Mumbai Indians in 2013 before the leg-spinner moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore. Known for posting humorous content on social media, Chahal posted an old photo of himself and Maxwell on Twitter. In his caption, he called his bond with Maxwell ‘Tom and Jerry’ and tweeted:

“When Tom and Jerry are finally in the same team 👀👻@RCBTweets welcome to the family brother 🤜🤛@Gmaxi_32 let’s #playbold”

Glenn Maxwell eyes good performance in the IPL:

All the eyes will be on Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming season of IPL 2021 thanks to his huge price tag. Maxwell will be also under pressure to deliver because of his poor displays in the tournament in recent years. The hard-hitting Australian batsman has faced severe criticism for failing to replicate his form for his country in the IPL.

Since starring in the 2014 IPL for Punjab Kings, he has blown hot and cold in the IPL. He had endured his worst season in the IPL last year after being bought for a whopping amount of Rs 10.75 crores by Punjab Kings. He managed to score only 108 runs from 13 matches as the Punjab-based outfit missed out on the playoffs. And just days after the completion of the IPL, he had starred for Australia during the ODI series against India.
