The IPL 2020 encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders and Shubman Gill was all about Shubman Gill’s batting brilliance. The 21-year-old, proving his worth, slammed an unbeaten knock of 70 off 62 balls and steered the Kolkata side to their maiden victory of the tournament.

Chasing a target of 143, KKR got off to a poor start losing the wickets of Sunil Narine (0) and Nitish Rana (26). But Shubman kept the scoreboard moving by his occasional boundaries. In the end, the youngster stitched a match-winning 92-run partnership with Eoin Morgan to steer KKR to the triumph.

Stitching his 70-run knock around five boundaries and two maximums, Gill played a pivotal role in KKR securing first two points of their IPL 2020 campaign. After his sublime half-century, Twitter heaped praise on Gill’s stellar batting display and also congratulated KKR for their triumph.

Gill also bagged the Man of the Match award for his blistering inning. A day after his knock, Gill shared his match pictures on Twitter with the caption– “Glad to get off the mark @KKRiders”

Reacting to the young lad’s tweet, former India all-rounder also posted a cheeky comment. “Nice bat Mr gill, who’s bat is that,” tweeted Yuvraj. Yuvraj was apparently referring to Gill’s bat which had “YouWeCan” written on it. YouWeCan is a foundation established by Yuvraj to raise awareness and help individuals to fight against cancer.

A couple of months ago, Yuvraj had mentored Gill in the 21-day camp of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). Heaping praise on Gill, Yuvraj had even said that Gill has the potential to play for India for a long period. Gill himself had also credited Yuvraj for playing a vital role in shaping up his career. The youngster had revealed that Yuvraj had guided him during his domestic career in the Punjab dressing room.

“He has been through so many challenges in his career, and his support and chats with me have been massively helpful. Guidance is very important in these aspects. Yuvraj didn’t want me to sign with any player management company at the start of my career. He said ‘just go and play, forget about these things. I didn’t sign anyone”, Gill had said.
