As many of you would know, the #MeToo movement spread like wildfire in India last year. After actress Tanushree Dutta alleged veteran actor Nana Patekar of sexual harassment, the movement caught up with the pace. Ever since then, many celebrities from the film industry as well as the other industries have come forward and shared their experiences. However, when popular Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone was asked about the movement, she had a different kind of response.

In a recent interview, the ‘Bajirao Mastani’ actress was asked about her thoughts about the #MeToo movement. She was questioned about her experience overall during this period being a part of the Bollywood industry. Deepika Padukone was asked to narrate her own experiences and observations. However, the star celebrity didn’t exactly reply to this question. Instead, she directed it towards a different school of thought.

Deepika Padukone feels the issue of sexual harassment should be recognised and taken care of

Deepika Padukone responded by asking why are the cricketers never asked about such questions. She added that she never saw any cricketer or sportsperson asked about this while every actor is questioned about the same. Furthermore, Deepika said that sexual harassment is prevalent in every industry and not just Bollywood as reported by PinkVilla.

She noted that this issue should be recognised and should be taken care of in all working spaces. The actress even said that she is not in a place to say if she would expose herself to the forum. Anu Mallik, Sajid Khan, Alok Nath, Kailash Kher were a few other names which have come out during the #MeToo movement.

On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is going quite strong on the work front. Of late, she has been busy working on multiple projects. Her upcoming film Chhapaak is based on an acid attack survivor whom she will be playing. Then, the ambitious and most-awaited project ’83 is also set to be released on April 2020.

The movie shares the journey of the Indian team during the 1983 World Cup. Deepika Padukone will be sharing screen space with her husband Ranveer Singh in the movie.
