The fourth and final Test between West Indies and India will always linger in the minds of many when it comes to what was at stake as the match was called off with just one session being played. While rain made an intervention on the first and second day’s play, the rest of the day’s play was eventually called off. While Pakistan rejoiced achieving the world no. 1 ranking in Test cricket, the Indians too went about rejoicing the fact that they clinched their first 2-0 series win in the Caribbean.

Day One saw the Indians take on the West Indies on a day that was supremely humid and also on a day that was supremely cloudy. Ishant Sharma got his customary wicket of Leon Johnson on the first day of the Test match when the latter nicked the ball into the safe and impregnable hands of Rohit Sharma. Darren Bravo’s torrid tournament continued as he was removed by India’s newest star Ravichandran Ashwin.

At 62/2 and the lunch break looming over the horizon, the rain made its divine intervention as it washed out the rest of the day’s play. There was rain on the second day as well, with half the day thrown out the window due to the rains. However, what was most annoying was the fact that the sunshine did little to dry out the outfield as the second day’s play was also something that went to waste.

Although Day 3 of the West Indies v India match saw the first session washed away by the wet outfield, it was clear that the there would be no play when the umpires of the match concluded that there could be no further play on the day. However, what happened soon after was a case of sheer disappointment for the Indians and the West Indians as the drainage system proved to be an absolute horror. The outfield was dug up while the officials hoped and prayed that the rainwater would eventually get evaporated.

With the outfield dug up quite a bit, the match was eventually brought to a close in the morning of Day 5 with the presentation also completed soon after.

Brief Scores:

West Indies: 62/2 in 22 overs (K Brathwaite 32*; I Sharma 1/7)
