Ravichandran Ashwin’s gesture towards a fan after India’s victory in the first T20I against West Indies has earned him a lot of respect and love from the fans. The off-spinner, who returned to the T20I squad for India after a while, had an excellent game where he picked up 2 for 22 in his four-over spell.

Apart from Ashwin, there were valuable contributions from skipper Rohit Sharma (44-ball 64) at the top of the order while Dinesh Karthik’s 19-ball 41* proved to be match-winning. The 37-year-old veteran hit four fours and two sixes in his superlative innings and finished off India’s innings in style to take the total to 190, which looked improbable at one stage. Karthik was rewarded with the Player of the Match award for his blistering knock.

“The wicket was a little sticky. Was not a good wicket to start on but once set, you got the pace of the wicket and you realised what kind of shots you can play. I have been enjoying [the finisher role] it a lot. it is a very interesting role. It is not something that you can be very consistent with but on some days, you can make an impact on the team. You need the backing of the captain and coach and I have got that in abundance,” Karthik said during the post-match presentation.

Meanwhile, after the match got over, a fan requested Karthik for a selfie and Ashwin, who was accompanying his statemate, turned up for the selfie despite not being called into. It was a dream-come-true moment for the fan to be in the picture with two of India’s best cricketers. Ashwin helped the fan with a hand on the other end to ensure the image falls better. Meanwhile, India will head to Warner Park for the second T20I on August 1.
