Cricket has always been known as the gentlemen’s game. A huge part of this terminology is associated with the fact that cricketers are always told to follow the rules with the utmost respect to the opposition, umpires, and fans while also maintaining the spirit of the game. In the ongoing Test match between West Indies and Pakistan, an incident between two players once again saw a good example of the spirit of cricket.

The incident took place on the first day of the second Test between the West Indies and Pakistan at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. The incident happened just after Mohammad Rizwan was joined by Faheem Ashraf after Babar Azam was dismissed. As Alzarri Joseph went ahead to deliver a ball, a fly came and got in his eye.

This disturbed his rhythm and he had to pull out of delivering the ball. Rizwan at the time was standing on the non-striker’s end and decided to come forward and help the fast-bowler. After that, West Indies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Pakistan’s Ashraf were seen coming to help the young fast-bowler.

The image of Rizwan and Joseph, with the former trying to help the latter was uploaded to Twitter by the West Indies Cricket official page. On that post, the caption read, ‘The #SpiritofCricket!” The incident and act of sportsmanship by Rizwan caught the attention of the fans on Twitter, some of whom praised him.

Pakistan recover from 2 for 3 to end day one on 212 for 4

Talking about the match, West Indies came into the second Test with a narrow one-wicket win in the previous game. They had a terrific start with the ball on day one of the second game. Pakistan was reduced to 2 for 3 quickly in the morning session. But after that early collapse, there was a reasonably well-built partnership that helped them recover.

Babar Azam made 75 runs, before becoming the fourth wicket to fall. Fawad Alam got retired hurt and couldn’t continue after scoring 76 runs. He is expected to bat on day two. Rizwan and Ashraf stayed unbeaten on 22 and 23 respectively as Pakistan ended the day’s play on 212 for 4. Kemar Roach was the pick of the bowlers and finished with three wickets.
