Ravindra Jadeja, of late, has become the comeback man of Indian cricket. Earlier this month, the 29-year-old all-rounder made an impressive return to the Test team in England. On Friday, he made a scintillating comeback to the ODI side in the ongoing Asia Cup in Dubai. He returned with the figures of 4/29 in his spell to help India demolish Bangladesh in the first Super Four encounter of the tournament.

Jadeja, who replaced injured fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the fifth and final Test at the Oval and excelled both with the ball and bat, saw himself back into the reckoning in the ODI side after the original pick Axar Patel got injured. He walked back into the playing XI as India was missing Hardik Pandya as well. The Saurashtra player made full use of the opportunity and grabbed the Man of the Match award.

Earlier gaps have not been this long

Having played his last ODI back in July 2017, Ravindra Jadeja later said that he didn’t have to prove anything to anyone and added that he would always remember the comeback he made at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. “I will always remember this comeback because I returned to the team after a gap of around 480 days. The earlier gaps have not been this long,” the bowler with 159 wickets in 137 ODIs said in a post-match press conference.

When asked whether his performance against Bangladesh was a reminder to the selectors ahead of the ICC World Cup next year that he too is around, the left-arm spinner was practical and believed that the mega event is too far and he wants to concentrate on this tournament first. Jaddu was also excited to play against Pakistan on Sunday and was looking forward to contributing.

“When I got a chance in England, I did well. Here, unfortunately, Axar (Patel) got injured and I got my opportunity and did well. India-Pakistan is something everyone is excited about,” Jaddu concluded.
