India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is back in the Indian set-up for the team’s tour to Sri Lanka. He is one of the five spinners announced for the white-ball tour which will begin on July 13. This series also presents the 30-year-old an opportunity to stamp his authority and be in the reckoning when the full-strength side is picked for India’s next assignment.
Apparently, India has announced a second-string squad for the tour, considering their first-choice players are not available due to the team’s England tour. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the squad and Rahul Dravid is the head coach of the team. All the 20 players have assembled in Mumbai and are undergoing a mandatory quarantine.
All the players are working out indoors and trying to maintain their fitness by sweating it in the hotel gym. Chahal too is trying hard and posted his workout video on his social media account. The leg-spinner can be seen doing shoulder exercise. Chahal wrote a caption to it and “It’s all about strength… physically as well as mentally.”

As soon as he posted the video, former England cricketer Sajid Mahmood replied with a cheeky comment and compared him to Bollywood actor Salman Khan. “Will be looking like @beingsalmankhan soon bro,” Mahmood wrote. Chahal in reply gave a fitting answer and said, “what about Arnold Schwarzenegger?”
Yuzvendra Chahal keen on making the opportunity count in Sri Lanka
This is a good chance for Chahal to excel well in the spin-friendly pitches in Sri Lanka. Apart from that, the Island nation is struggling to play good cricket over a long period of time and has failed to trouble the top teams in recent years. The leg-spinner will be eager to cash in on this opportunity and try to get many scalps.
There is tough competition for him in the spin department too as there are Kuldeep Yadav, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Varun Chakravarthy too. Chahal has to make amends whenever he gets a chance during the series. With the 14th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) and ICC T20 World Cup 2021 to be held later in the year, Chahal will look to be back among the mix.
