Many drastic and painful incidents could occur on the cricket field, even with the advancement in safety restriction for the players as well as for the on-field umpires. The most disastrous incident that happened in 2014 in which young Aussie cricketer Phillip Hughes died after collapsing on the field due to being hit with a tenacious bouncer during a domestic game.

Another such unfortunate scene took place on Sunday when Will Pucovski suffered a lethal blow by a short ball from New South Wales (NSW) fast bowler Sean Abbott and then fell to his knees after the ball being struck straight on his helmet.

Abbott left jolted

It was Abbott who bowled that last delivery to Hughes at the SCG in November 2014, which ultimately brought down his tragic death. The NSW fast bowler was tremendously jolted and raced down towards Pucovski who was quickly surrounded by players and officials. Presently, he is under the complete supervision of Cricket Victoria’s medical team and will only be returning back to the game after receiving proper treatment for his injury.

“It was unfortunate but that’s cricket. I’m under the supervision of Cricket Victoria’s medical team and we’ll look at my return to play once I have fully recovered,” said Pucovski in his statement after being struck by a vicious short delivery as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Pucovski was kept in a dark room for a couple of hours

The young Victorian batsman has a long history of injuries in his brief career and has suffered seven concussions during playing and training mishaps over the past five years. Shaun Graf, who is Victoria’s general manager shared some insights on the injury to Pucovski. He mentioned that a wider discussion needs to happen before any confirmation as to the batsman’s general health leading into the future.

“He spent a couple of hours in a very dark room. He had a headache obviously and he was quite rattled but he really recovered quite quickly. We’ve got to just have a wider conversation maybe somewhere down the track as to his general health leading into the future,” said the Victorian general manager on the cricket’s health in a conversation with RSN radio.
