Windies set to host Sri Lanka in three Tests in June 2018

The Cricket West Indies recently announced the fixtures for their home series against Sri Lanka next year. The cricket board made an official announcement about the same where they revealed that Windies would be hosting Sri Lanka for three Test matches in 2018. The tour will take place in the month of June. The board has shortlisted the venues as Trinidad, Barbados, and St. Lucia.

The fixtures have been finalized as well. Interestingly, Sri Lanka have never played a Test match at the iconic venue of the Kensington Oval in Barbados. This will be their first ever Test match at the venue. For the numbers, Sri Lanka have played only 3 Test series against the Windies in the Caribbean. In the six Test matches they have played on the Caribbean across these three series, they have won only one Test and have lost three matches.

Two of these six Tests have ended in a draw. The fixtures for the fourth tour of Sri Lanka to the Windies were released on the official website of the Cricket West Indies. The Sri Lankans will play a warm up match at Trinidad. It will be a three day warm up game. The first Test will be commence on June 6.

May 30 to Fri, Jun 1 – Tour Match – Brian Lara Cricket Ground, Trinidad
Jun 6 to Sun, Jun 10 – 1st Test – Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad
Jun 14 to Mon, Jun 18 – 2nd Test – Kensington Oval, Barbados
Jun 23 to Wed, Jun 27 – 3rd Test – Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, St. Lucia

Battle of transitioning sides

Commenting on the series and the prospects it holds for world cricket, the series is expected to be a battle of equal sides. Both Windies and team Sri Lanka are in their transition period. They are trying to find their feet in the world cricket again. With the big names from their respective sides bidding adieu to the game, they are hoping for their youngsters to step up to the occasion and perform at the highest level.
