After one of the most one-sided Test series ever, Windies and Bangladesh will take part in the 3-match ODI series starting on Sunday. Bangladesh will be banking on their recent record in ODI format which is on par with the Caribbean team. The Test series did bring down the confidence of Bangladesh and exposed their inability of playing quality pace. The raw pace of Alzarri Joseph and Keemo Paul could well continue to possess the threat to experienced Bangladesh’s batting line-up.

This series will be marked as the return of Andre Russell to the Windies’ ODI squad who played only one ODI since the completion of the 2015 World Cup that too in November 2015. His inclusion will strengthen the already strong batting of the home team with the likes of Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle at the top. It will be interesting to see how Bangladesh bowlers will handle them under Mashrafe Mortaza who will be playing his first International match after six months.

Pitch:

It is quite tough to predict the pitch at the Providence given the recent matches played at this venue. During the 2017 series between the hosts and Pakistan, scores of 308, 282 and 233 were recorded in the first innings. The three matches played at this venue during the 2016 Triangular series witnessed first innings totals under 190. Unless the early morning showers make some impact, the pitch could be on the slower side like most of the previous instances.

Windies:

Andre Russell will be joining the forces of Jason Holder and Rovman Powell, the hard-hitting all-rounders in middle and lower-order. However, Powell might make way for Ashley Nurse if spinners are going to have a say in the game. Jason Mohammed might get a nod ahead of Kieran Powell given his centuries in the one-day games for Windies ‘A’ during UK tour.

Predicted XI: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope (wk), Jason Mohammed, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder (c), Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Devendra Bishoo, Keemo Paul, Alzarri Joseph.

Bangladesh:

Abu Hider could well be in the line for an ODI debut given the uncertainty of Mustafizur Rahman’s fitness. Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Nazmul Islam might wait longer for their ODI debuts as there is a possibility of Windies playing with at least three left-handers in the top five. The visitors could go ahead with only Mehidy Hasan as a specialist spinner.

Predicted XI: Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Sabbir Rahman, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman / Abu Hider.

Head to head

Played – 28 | Windies – 19, Bangladesh – 7, N/R – 2

The prediction is for the hosts to continue their winning streak over Bangladesh.
