After a closely fought ODI series that Bangladesh won 2-1, the West Indian team came back strongly in the T20I series with a 7-wicket win in the shortened first game. Bangladesh lost both their openers in the very first over but were placed at 95/4 at end of the 10th over. Some tight bowling from the hosts ensured that Bangladesh finished with only 148/8 on the board. Rain shortened the Windies’ run-chase to 91 required from 11 overs and they got there in 9.1 overs with seven wickets in hand.

All the major stats and numbers from Windies’ win in the first T20I against Bangladesh:

0Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar bagging golden ducks is the first instance when both the openers were dismissed for golden ducks in a T20I inning.

Overall, this is the 13th instance when both openers got out for a duck in a T20I inning. There are two instances in ODI cricket and five in Test cricket where both the openers got out for golden ducks in an inning.

1 – Tamim Iqbal became the first player in International cricket to be stumped on the first ball of the team’s innings. Solomon Mire while batting first in an ODI against Bangladesh and Sahibzada Farhan in a T20I while chasing against Australia got stumped off a wide after their opening partners took a single on the first ball earlier this year.

Tillakaratne Dilshan got out stumped on the first legitimate ball of Sri Lanka’s run-chase against India during the Ranchi T20I. Dilshan occupied the strike after running a bye on a wide delivery.

1 – Ashely Nurse became the first player to take a wicket in the first over of an International game and not bowl in the remainder of the game (Min: 1 completed inns). He took two wickets in the only over he bowled making him the first player with multiple wickets in the first over of a completed International innings who didn’t bowl again.

Netherlands’ Michael Swart bagged a wicket in the first over of UAE’s run-chase in the 2015 T20I but didn’t bowl again. UAE were later bowled out for 73 batting out 16.4 overs.

2 – Only the 2nd time Bangladesh lost a wicket on the very first ball of an inning in T20I cricket. Tamim got out during a run-chase against Afghanistan in the Dehradun T20I in June this year.

4 – Bangladesh lost the wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar by the 4th ball of their innings. These are the fewest deliveries before the team ever lost two wickets at the top in a T20I.

These are also the joint 2nd fewest balls Bangladesh team played before losing their 2nd wicket in an International inning. Bangladesh were 0/3 in 0.3 overs in the 2003 World Cup game against Sri Lanka when Chaminda Vaas took a hat-trick. They were 0/2 by 0.4 overs in the 2004 Kingston ODI against the Windies.

8.33 – Shakib Al Hasan’s win percentage as captain in T20I: 8.33 is the lowest for any captain in this format (Min: 10 matches). This is Bangladesh’s 5th consecutive defeat since they beat Sri Lanka in a last-over thriller during the Nidahas Trophy which is the first and only T20I win as captain for Shakib.
