Chris Gayle’s hundred went in vain as England chased down 361 against the Windies to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series on Thursday.

England have pulled off their highest successful run-chase in ODI cricket and the third-highest of all time at Kensington Oval. They have shown why they are the No.1 ranked ODI team in the world. Their top-order overpowered the Windies to steal the game within the first 20 overs. After that, there was no back gate for them as they chased mammoth 364 runs.

Things looked set for Windies after the first innings as Gayle along with Campbell started off well with former being the aggressor, scoring a solid 30 runs. After that, Gayle, playing his first ODI since last July, along with Shai Hope took the momentum forward and registered their first ever hundred run partnership between them.

Shai Hope was looking in sublime touch from ball one and was looking all set for his hundred but Ben Stokes cut short his innings to 64.

On the other hand, Universal Boss bludgeoned the English bowlers to all parts of the ground. In the process, he surpassed Shahid Afridi to record most number of sixes in international cricket with 477 sixes, and the first player to hit 100 sixes against England. He was bowled by Stokes on 135 runs (12 Sixes, 3 fours) and with a quick cameo from Darren Bravo (40) and Nurse (25) they posted a huge score of 360 on board. Ben Stokes (3 for 37) was the pick of the bowlers amongst all the English bowlers as all took a hammering from the Gayle Storm.

English Dynamic top order were at their brute best, scoring 88 runs in the 1st powerplay. After losing wicket of Bairstow, The combination of Joe and Jason piled on the runs and made sure they were always above the run rate. Jason Roy (123) provided the impetus to the innings and Joe Root (102) and Morgan (65) took the game till the end and won the match with 8 balls to spare.
