Jasprit Bumrah will be on cloud nine after his amazing bowling efforts helped India crush West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series in the Caribbean and got Indian team its first points in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship. Indian team registered a massive 318-run win in the Antigua Test, going 1-0 up in the series.

Earlier it was the efforts of Indian batting as Ajinkya Rahane’s 88 helped India post a formidable total of 297 runs in the first innings despite the team being in trouble at one time. Ravindra Jadeja too pitched in with 58. Ishant Sharma then picked up 5/43, while Shami and Jadeja picked two wickets each as West Indies crumbled for 222 all out, giving India an important 75-run lead.

Rahane made 102 and Vihari made 93 as India piled up 343/7d along with Kohli’s 51, putting up 419 runs as the target for Jason Holder’s men to chase down with two days in hand. However, little did the Caribbean team knew that they were going to be blown away thanks to a very special performance from Jasprit Bumrah in his first Test in the Bajan nation.

Bumrah picks 5/7, his fourth five-wicket haul in the fourth country

Bumrah started by having Kraigg Brathwaite caught behind for 1. Shortly after he removed John Campbell for 1 after he brought one delivery back and sent his off stump cartwheeling back. This was the story for Darren Bravo (2), who had absolutely no idea how the ball tailed into him and hit the top of his off stump.

If Bumrah wasn’t done with clean bowling left-handers, he then castled Shai Hope and Jason Holder as well with two brilliant out-going deliveries, which left even Ian Bishop praising the Indian bowler while commentating on air. He received some great help from Ishant Sharma, who picked three wickets and Mohammad Shami who chipped in with 2/13.

The 318-run win by India is their highest victory by the margin of runs away from home and established why they are the no.1 ranked Test side in the ICC Test rankings. Though Ajinkya Rahane was awarded the Man of the Match for his 88 and 102; and Ishant Sharma picked a fifer, it was Bumrah who impressed one and all with his amazing control over the movement of the ball and his new weapon of taking the ball away from right-handers.
