Cheteshwar Pujara, the Indian middle-order batsman is one of the most prolific Test cricketers currently playing at international level. There has been a long debate going on over the comparison of limited-overs format with the classical Test cricket. The longer format has seen a drastic drop in its popularity due to which ICC introduced World Test Championship to bring some competitiveness back in the format. And, now Cheteshwar Pujara has given out his opinion over the same.

The 32-year-old made his debut back in 2010 against Australia. He marked his arrival with a 72 run knock against Aussie during the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test at his home ground in Bangalore. Since then he has earned his reputation as a Test specialist across the globe. So, far he has played 75 Tests in which he has muscled 5740 runs with three double centuries, 18 tons and 24 half-centuries and is rock solid at number three for India.

Cheteshwar Pujara says winning ICC Test Championship is a big thing

The ongoing ICC Test Championship’s final will be played in the year 2021 between the top two teams in the points table at Lords. Currently, Team India is the league toppers with 360 points followed by Australia and England at 2nd and 3rd position with 296 and 146 points respectively.

Pujara is quite pleased with this new championship that has given a new face to Test cricket. The 32-year-old said that for him the longer format of the game is the best. And as per him, winning ICC World Test Championship will be better than winning ODI or T20 World Cup. He also asserted that the former cricketers would also agree with the fact that Test cricket is the purest form of the game.

“When you become Test champions that is the ultimate. I would say it is better than winning an ODI or T20 World Cup. The reason is this format is the ultimate format. If you would ask any great cricketer from the past and present cricketers, they will say Test cricket is the most challenging format of this game,” Cheteshwar Pujara said while speaking to India Today.
