The Women’s T20 Challenge in Jaipur is all set to get underway tomorrow at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The opening game is scheduled to be played between the Supernovas, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur and the Trailblazers, led by Smriti Mandhana. Last year, the same opponents faced in the Women’s T20 Challenge match in the game played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Supernovas took the honours.

Mandhana recently captained the India Women’s team in the three-match T20I series against England Women and slumped to defeat in all three encounters. Amidst the hullabaloo surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, the women’s game is expected to come as a breath of fresh air.

Pitch Report

Out of the seven matches, played in the men’s IPL in Jaipur, six were won by the team, batting second. Even in the opening match between RR and KXIP, the chasing team (RR) was in the driver’s seat for a significant amount of time. Hence, teams may opt to field first after winning the toss.

Weather Report

The temperature during the match will start at 36 degrees Celsius and will come down to 32 degrees Celsius by the end of the match. The humidity will be on the lower side with the numbers as low as 7 per cent.

Team Combination

Supernovas

Jemimiah Rodrigues has been a success at the international level and she’ll open with Sophie Devine. The experienced Chamari Athapaththu and the swashbuckling Harmanpreet Kaur will come at three and four respectively. Natalie Sciver can also tonk the leather a fair distance. In the bowling department, Patil, Poonam and Radha are the spinners. Tahuhu, Devine and one of Reddy and Joshi are the pacers.

Probable XI

Jemimah Rodrigues, Sophie Devine, Chamari Athapaththu, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Natalie Sciver, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Anuja Patil, Lea Tahuhu, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Mansi Joshi/Arundhati Reddy

Trailblazers

Skipper Mandhana and Dayalan Hemalatha are the opening batswomen. The onus will be on the experienced heads of Suzie Bates and Stefanie Taylor in the middle-order. Deepti Sharma and Harleen Deol can also add valuable runs. The bowling up will be led by the experienced Jhulan Goswami. Sophie Ecclestone, Gayakwad and Shakera Selman are the other bowlers in the lineup.

Probable XI

Smriti Mandhana (C), Dayalan Hemalatha, Suzie Bates, Stefanie Taylor, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Ravi Kalpana (wk), Shakera Selman, Jhulan Goswami, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Sophie Ecclestone

Probable Top Performer

Harmanpreet Kaur- Supernovas

The Punjab cricketer will be taking the field after almost three months. She couldn’t play the T20I series versus the England Women owing to an ankle injury. Nevertheless, bearing in mind the talent she possesses, the opponent can’t afford to write her off. Kaur has 1910 runs in the T20 format with six fifties and one century against New Zealand in the Women’s World T20.

Smriti Mandhana- Trailblazers

The 22-year-old has arguably been the most consistent all-format batter Indian cricket has ever seen. She has grown from strength to strength in her carer and even the best bowlers around the world have strained to stop the swashbuckling batter from Maharashtra. In her last six T20 Internationals, the young Mandhana has scores of 58, 12, 2, 86, 36 and 58.
