By defeating England on the last day of the league stage of the Women’s World T20, Windies ended on the top in Group A. Just like their counterparts India, they carried on with an unbeaten streak and would hope to do the same in the knockouts. It would be them against Australia in the first semi-final that will be played on Friday. India will face England in the other knockout clash.

The other match played was between South Africa and Bangladesh. The former cruised along through to a comfortable win and ended their campaign on a good note. Here is how things progressed on the 10th day of the Women’s World T20.

Windies Women vs England Women (Group A) – Match 19

Windies Women won the toss and opted to bowl first in this dead rubber of an encounter. Although it wasn’t a really significant game, both the teams competed extremely hard till the last over of the match. The top and the middle order of the England team failed to deliver the required goods. They were 50/6 at one stage. However, Sophia Dunkley Brown and Anya Shrubsole who scored 35 and 29 runs respectively batting down the order helped the side recover and end the innings with 115/8 in 20 overs.

Two batters dominated the chase for the Windies. Deandra Dottin and Shemaine Campbelle scored 46 and 45 runs respectively almost finishing off the job. However, the English bowlers weren’t the ones who would give up easily and battled hard till the end. Windies got to the target only three balls shy and with four wickets left.

Brief Scores:

ENG-W: 115/8 in 20 overs (Sophia Dunkley Brown 35, Anya Shrubsole 29, S Selman 2/15)

WI-W: 117/6 in 19.3 overs (Deandra Dottin 46, S Campbelle 45, Anya Shrubsole 3/10)

Result: England Women won by 4 wickets.

South Africa Women vs Bangladesh Women (Group A) – Match 20

A collective effort from the top six helped South Africa post 109 runs in 20 overs. They were put into bat first and lost nine wickets during the course of the innings. With 25 runs off 19 balls, Marizanne Kapp was the highest run scorer. Salma Khatun picked up three wickets in the innings.

Bangladesh’s batting performances weren’t impressive in this game either. They failed to reach the target even though they had wickets in hand. The openers together consumed 31 deliveries to score only 11 runs. Even though Rumana Ahmed with an unbeaten 34 off 40 balls tried to take the team home, she didn’t find much support from the other end. The Proteas won the game by 30 runs.

Brief Scores:

SA-W: 109/9 in 20 overs (M Kapp 25, L Lee 21, Salma Khatun 3/20)

BAN-W: 79/5 in 20 overs (Rumana Ahmed 34*, Fargana Hoque 19, M Daniels 1/6)

Result: South Africa Women won by 30 runs.
