Two games were scheduled to be played on the fourth day of Women’s World T20 2018. In the first encounter, England Women were up against Bangladesh Women in an encounter that had to be cut short due to rain. It was Sri Lanka Women against South Africa Women in the other encounter.

Bangladesh have now lost two games in a row and their batting order didn’t do well this time either. Hence, the side will have to win their remaining games if they are to stand a chance to qualify for the semis. Moreover, this is England’s first win in the tournament as their previous match was a washout. In the other game, South Africa Women won by 7 wickets.

Here is how things progressed on the fourth day of the Women’s World T20 2018:

England Women vs Bangladesh Women (Group A) – Match 7

In tricky overcast conditions, Bangladesh Women were put into bat first. The ball was swinging early on in the innings and England Women took full advantage of it. The bowlers kept picking wickets one after the other. If it was not for a 52-ball 39 from Ayasha Rahman, Bangladesh would have found themselves in immense trouble. In 20 overs, all they managed to score was 76 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.

Keeping the looming threat of the rain in mind, England tried to go hard in the chase. In the process, they lost their openers early. However, a 24-ball 28 from A Jones and a 17-ball 23 from N Sciver supported England in not falling apart due to the pressure that was built up early on after they were down to 13/2. Furthermore, skipper Heather Knight played a handy cameo of 11 runs before there was a rain interruption. England won by 7 wickets according to the DLS method.

Brief Scores:

BAN-W: 76/9 in 20 overs (Ayasha Rahman 39, Jahanara Alam 12, Kirstie Gordon 3/16)

ENG-W: 64/3 in 9.3 overs (A Jones 28, N Sciver 23, Salma Khatun 2/17)

Result: England Women won by 7 wickets (DLS Method)

Sri Lanka Women vs South Africa Women (Group A) – Match 8

It was at the same venue, i.e, the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia where this match was also played. So, South Africa had no hesitations in opting to bowl after winning the toss. The bowling performance from the Proteas was quite disappointing. Although they restricted the opposition for 99, 24 extras were conceded. S Siriwardene with 21 runs was the highest scorer in the innings.

It was quite an easy one for Proteas in the chase. Marizanne Kapp and skipper van Niekerk stitched together a good partnership after the openers fell early in the innings. The chase was completed with 9 balls and 7 wickets left to spare.

Brief Scores:

SL-W: 99/8 in 20 overs (S Siriwardene 21, Manodara 20, Shabnim Ismail 3/10)

SA-W: 102/3 in 18.3 overs (M Kapp 38, van Niekerk 33*, S Siriwardene 1/12)

Result: South Africa Women won by 7 wickets.
