World Cup 2015 Match 35 South Africa vs UAE Review: UAE go down fighting:South Africa had an easy outing against UAE before the knock out begins. UAE bowled first after their captain Mohd. Tauqir won the toss.
Hashim Amla was dismissed early for 12 and Quinton deKock followed him for 26. Rilee Rossouw made 44 runs before getting out toTauqir. AB de Villiers and David Miller then got together tostich a partnership in crunch time. Both of them added 108 runs for the 5th wicket, with Miller making 49 runs getting out to MohdNaveed.
Ab de Villiers continued with JP Duminy making runs at will and bettering the run rate. AB de Villiers was dismissed just 1 run short of his hundred by Kamran Shehzad. A late surge by JP Duminy (23) and Farhaan Behardien, who scored an important 64 off 31 balls, took South Africa to 341/6.
UAE had a very tough batting line-up in front of them but still bowlers like Mohd. Naveed took 3/63, while Kamran Shehzad, Amjad Javed and Mohd. Tauqir took 1 wicket each. Though Javed went for 87 runs in his 10 overs, most of the other bowlers did better.
The South African bowlers looked out of sorts a bit, especially Dale Steyn who looks tired and fatigued. But Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander took care of that by giving UAE batsmen a serious work up. UAE must have faced bowling of such speed and skill for the first time and it showed. After losing their top three for 45 runs, UAE got a partnership going with their most in form batsman Shaiman Anwar (39) and their wicket keeper Swapnil Patil who made an unbeaten 57 off 100 balls. Both the batsmen added 62 runs in their partnership. But the rest of the batting just collapsed like a sack of potatoes. In the end UAE could only make 195 runs but importantly played almost 48 overs against the South African attack.
The most impressive South African bowlers were Morne Morkel (2/23), Philander (2/34) and surprisingly Captain AB de Villiers (2/15). South Africa will now play Sri Lanka in the first quarterfinal match of the knockout stages.
AB de Villiers got the Man of the match for his 99 and 2/15.
