World Cup 2019: Approaching milestones for the Afghanistan players

The Afghanistan team has been one of the fastest evolving countries in the World Cup as they will be playing the 10-team World Cup in less than ten years of becoming an associate team. The Afghan team became the 5th Asian to qualify for the World Cup 2019 by winning the CWC qualifiers held in Zimbabwe last year. Afghanistan not only excelled against the Associates but also defeated a few top-ranked teams in this period. Gulbadin Naib was made as captain for this tournament replacing Asghar Afghan.

100Mohammad Nabi is 15 sixes away from becoming the first player to hit 100 maximums for Afghanistan in ODIs. Nabi has hit 85 ODI sixes for Afghanistan; 30 sixes more than any other player. Left-handed batsman Najibullah Zadran is nine maximums away from becoming only the 4th Afghanistan batsman to smash 100 International sixes.


100 – The 2nd match at the CWC 2019 will be Rashid Khan’s 100th International game for Afghanistan. The leg-spinner has featured in a total of 99 Internationals till date including one for the World XI. Their skipper Gulbadin Naib will also play his 100th International match during this tournament having represented the Afghans in 94 games so far.


200 – Mohammad Nabi needs nine more wickets to become the 2nd player after Rashid Khan (207) to claim 200 International wickets for Afghanistan. The all-rounder claimed 191 wickets from 182 Internationals thus far. Dawlat Zadran (146) and Hamid Hassan (90) also inch closer to bagging their 150th and 100th wicket respectively for the Afghans in Internationals.


1000Hashmatullah Shahidi needs 22 more runs for reaching 1000 runs in International cricket as he scored 978 runs across 34 matches. Shahidi needs 135 more runs for completing 1000 ODI runs having scored 865 till date. Rashid Khan (941) is also 59 runs away from getting to 1000 International runs for Afghanistan.


3000Mohammad Shahzad (2720) would be the first Afghanistan player with 3000 ODI runs when he scores 280 more runs. Mohammad Nabi isn’t any far from Shahzad as he scored 2,592 runs and require 408 runs for the milestone. Shahzad (4725) also needs 275 runs for becoming the first player to amass 5000 International runs for Afghanistan while Nabi (3778) needs 222 runs for reaching 4000 International runs.
