A lot of hearts were left bleeding after India pulverized arch-rivals Pakistan in the league match of the 2019 cricket World Cup at Old Trafford, on Sunday. The Pakistani fans and former cricketers were distraught with Sarfaraz Ahmed’s side uninspiring show as Virat Kohli’s men registered 89-run victory via the DLS Method. Batting first, India totalled 336 for 5 in 50 overs and then restricted Pakistan to 212 for 6 in 40 overs when they were required to chase 302.

Criticism flew in thick and fast for the Pakistani side after the defeat with the captain, players and even team management facing a serious backlash. In between all the reactions, British-born Pakistani boxer Amir Khan, nicknamed ‘King’, came up with a thundering roar. He said on July 12, he will avenge the Pakistani side’s defeat during his welterweight bout against India’s Neeraj Goyat. The upcoming bout has occupied quite a space in the boxing media at the moment and it seems Khan wants to make full use of the limelight especially in the context of cricket.

Amir will trade blows with Neeraj in the much-anticipated fight in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The specially-made WCB ‘Pearl’ title will be on the line during the bout. The two boxers are so engrossed in the upcoming fight that they hoped that India and Pakistan could come together for the cause of the bout.

Amir was speaking about peace recently but not any more

However, after Pakistan’s poor loss at the cricket World Cup, it seems the 32-year-old Amir is more in a confrontational mood. He had said earlier that the first-ever fight between a British-Pakistani and an Indian boxer will eventually bring the two neighbours together. But now, he is talking about avenging the loss in cricket. He warned that he will knock Neeraj out in the upcoming fight.

Amir though was trolled over his remarks. Some even mocked him over his warning saying he is not a Pakistani but a British while others criticised him for speaking aggressively.

Coming back to cricket, Pakistan now have four games left to script their turnaround in this World Cup. They have some time to regroup before they meet South Africa in their next game on June 23 but they must come up with a complete overhaul of their performance.
