South Africa’s World Cup campaign hasn’t got off to an ideal start. They lost the tournament opener to England then were taken down by a brilliant Bangladesh side. Moreover, Lungi Ngidi got injured in the middle of the match and has been ruled out of the action for next week or so. Dale Steyn was expected to take the field for the game against India on Wednesday. But he has been ruled out of the whole World Cup now after suffering a second shoulder injury.

Dale Steyn injured his shoulder during the Indian Premier League (IPL) stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, it was told then that his recovery was on track and travelled to England with the squad. He was on the sidelines for the first two matches and was expected to be available for the marquee clash against India.

But this comes as massive for the already in trouble Proteas as they don’t have a proper pace bowler in the line-up to accompany Kagiso Rabada with the new ball.

Beuran Hendricks named as Steyn’s replacement

According to Cricbuzz, the Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named the left-arm seamer Beuran Hendricks as Dale Steyn’s replacement who suffered a second shoulder injury. It remains to be seen though when he will reach England and even if he reaches, will the pacer be fit enough to play in the game against India? As of now, the management is expected to include Dwaine Pretorius in the line-up which will lead to three seam bowling all-rounders in the playing XI for them.

South Africa have no option but to opt for this combination as the only other player in the squad is Tabraiz Shamsi whom they might not risk to play against India. As for Steyn, this seems to be the end of the road in at least the One-Day International format. It will be interesting to see if he comes out in public to open up on what actually transpired.
