Things have changed drastically since England and Bangladesh last met in a World Cup. Both the teams had last played in the World Cup in 2015 when the Asian team had stunned the Brits and dumped them out of the competition. England cricket was at its all time low at that time. However, that heartbreaking loss proved to be the turning point in England’s remarkable rise in ODI cricket. Fast forward to 2019 and the Eoin Morgan-led side is the number one ODI team in the world.

England have not looked back since their humiliating ouster from the 2015 World Cup and are one of the favourites for the ongoing mega event. The hosts are now up against Bangladesh and will be looking to set the record straight in Cardiff. England’s quest to win their first-ever World Cup began with a thumping win over South Africa. However, in the very next game, they received a rude awakening after the loss in their second game against Pakistan at Trent Bridge.

England will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Bangladesh. The hosts will be favourites for the clash but their skipper Eoin Morgan is well aware of the threat possessed by the opponents. Bangladesh had beaten England in the 2011 World Cup too and Morgan is in no mood to take the Tigers lightly.

“It is going to be a difficult game. They are a good side and I think people underestimate them. We certainly don’t,” Morgan said on the eve of the match.

“They are a side that has played a lot of cricket, their senior players especially have played a lot of games, more so than our senior players so they are a threat. Hopefully, we can play well and overcome them. I remember them making their earliest impression, against Australia in 2005. Since then they have been exposed to a lot more cricket and have become a better side. We were beaten by a better team in 2015. They deserved to win that night,” he added.

Not worried with the loss

Eoin Morgan also spoke on the loss at the hands of Pakistan. England were the clear favourites to win the game but lost the high-scoring thriller. Morgan, however, is not worried with it as he said England have had a discussion on how to progress after losing a match.

“All we have talked about is sticking to what we do well. Even before the tournament, we talked about losing games, how we would react and what we would counter that with,” Morgan further stated.
