A few days ago, Team India suffered a massive blow with Shikhar Dhawan injuring his finger during the game against Australia. Thus, he had to be ruled out for at least three or four games. Hence, the management was forced to make amends to the highly successful opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar. KL Rahul, who was batting at four up until this point, was asked the open the innings for India.

While Rahul is a regular opener, there was some scepticism as he didn’t do it much in England in recent times. Moreover, he never opened the innings along with Rohit Sharma in an ODI game before this match. So, there were several questions that were raised. But the moment he walked out on the field, he has quashed all the doubts with his batting. He took some time initially as Rohit played the aggressor but caught up with pace soon.

Rahul played some of the most glorious shots and was a delight to watch. He hit three fours and two sixes and was looking set for a massive score. He reached his half-century with a mesmerising six and a century was clearly on the cards. However, he got out to Wahab Riaz when he was batting on 57.

Did Kevin Pietersen jinx KL Rahul?

While he was batting, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen came up with an interesting tweet. “I love KL Rahul,” wrote the right-handed batsman in his tweet. But soon after this, the batsman got out and ended up disappointing one and all.

After he was warned twice, Riaz changed sides and bowled from around the wicket. The ploy worked for him as KL Rahul chipped one straight to the fielder at covers resulting in a soft dismissal. Since this wicket came right after the tweet from Kevin Pietersen, the Indian fans absolutely lashed out at him.

They said that KP jinxed KL with his tweet and expressed their frustration on Twitter. Some of the fans asked him to rather stay quiet instead of coming up with these tweets. A user, in his tweet, wrote ‘Panuati’ which means an unlucky charm.

Here is how the fans reacted to Kevin Pietersen’s tweet:
