Unless they win all three matches and math favours their position, West Indies have no scope of making it to the semi-finals. India, on the other hand, need a win and will be almost through. Here is all you need to read for both the teams before picking your Fantain XI.
Team News:
India
The Indian Cricket Team have done very well overall. The only black mark so far is the way they handled the match against Afghanistan and that surprised many. A shoo-in match almost became a touch-and-go when Afghanistan came back strong to make India sweat to win.
With Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar rendered unavailable, India might bring in Pant. Vijay has not been too efficient and might find himself sitting out of the game against West Indies.
Rohit Sharma’s early dismissal against Afghanistan should not be a point of concern.
Probable XI: MS Dhoni (wk), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Kedar Jadhav, Mohammed Shami, Yuzvendra Chahal, Vijay Shankar, Kuldeep Yadav, Lokesh Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya
West Indies
The team that had the potential to make it to the semi-finals find themselves struggling to leave the tournament with heads held high. Having won only one match out of 5 (1 was abandoned due to the rain), the team probably has to relook the combination. With nothing to lose, they can afford to make a few changes.
The fight against New Zealand was strong and saw traces of the potential that still exists in the team. It was a heart-breaking loss by 5 runs, with Brathwaite giving it his all to see his team go past the finish line. Roach’s bowling was brilliant.
Probable XI: Chris Gayle, Kemar Roach, Ashley Nurse, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder (c), Evin Lewis, Sheldon Cottrell, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope (wk), Oshane Thomas
Top Picks
Brathwaite: The fight back against New Zealand puts him in a very special spot. Partnering with Gayle and Hetmyer, the batting can look dangerous indeed.
Roach: He has the hang of the ball over the unpredictable British Pitch. He might not have taken wickets but the dot balls matter too.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: If these two players pull of a fabulous partnership, the rest can be left to the bowlers to defend.
Shami and Chahal: The pace-spin combination has worked very well for the Indians. It could be the key to breaking crucial partnerships.
Fantain Fantasy XI:
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma, Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul
Bowlers: Sheldon Cottrel, Y Chahal, J Bumrah, C Brathwaite
All-Rounders: Jason Holder, Hardik Pandya
WK: Pooran
