The 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales has already gotten underway. After a few days of jaw-dropping cricket, New Zealand is sitting pretty on top of the points table with three victories from as many games. Apart from the Black Caps, India, captained by the enigmatic Virat Kohli, is the only team to not have lost any of its games thus far in the 50-overs tournament.

The Men in Blue were clinical in their opening match versus South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton and won the encounter by six wickets. Kohli’s men carried over their form in the second contest against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. Even as Rohit Sharma notched a ton in the first game, the left-hander Shikhar Dhawan scored a century second time around.

In the meantime, former Pakistan cricketer Misbah ul Haq named the top two teams of the mega event. “India and England are the top two teams on paper because of their performances. Then the rest of the teams come. Cricket is unpredictable and anyone can win on their day. No team is invincible,” Misbah was quoted as saying in an interview with ARY News.

India and England’s domination

Yesterday, after electing to bat first, India showed utter dominance and put up 352 on the board in 50 overs. Apart from Dhawan, the likes of Kohli, Rohit, MS Dhoni, and Hardik Pandya also chipped in with useful and quickfire knocks. Thereafter, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah bowled exceptionally to shoot the Aussies out for 316 in 50 overs and take India to a victory by 36 runs.

India’s next match is against the Kiwis on Thursday, June 13 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Misbah’s other choice England hasn’t done badly either in the World Cup. The team, led by Eoin Morgan, is currently placed second on the points table with two victories from three matches.

The Three Lions rolled over South Africa by 104 runs to start their campaign. Nevertheless, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Co slapped them with a 14-run defeat in Nottingham. The Brits didn’t panic and made a strong comeback versus Bangladesh at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, winning by 106 runs.
