World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli imitates Jasprit Bumrah’s action before India’s semi-final match

Jasprit Bumrah has been a revelation for India ever since he stepped into the international cricket way back in 2016. For around a couple of years, the speedster honed his skills in the 50-over format. During this period, he groomed himself and is now a brute force for the Indian team. Last year, the 25-year-old made his Test debut in the series against South Africa and he didn’t flatter to deceive.

He went from strength to strength and is currently ICC’s top-ranked ODI bowler. The Ahmedabad-born pacer is currently plying his trade in this edition of the World Cup. The speedster is presently the Men in Blue’s most economical bowler among the specialists. Bumrah hasn’t given the batsmen much to work with, hitting the right channels pretty consistently.

He has tasted so much success in his short career that aspiring fast bowlers have started to imitate his bowling action, the videos of which have gone viral on social media. His slingy style of bowling has gained so much popularity that even Virat Kohli, the Indian captain, went on to imitate it. He tried to bowl like Bumrah prior to India’s semi-final match against New Zealand at the Old Trafford.

A decent World Cup for Virat

From a personal viewpoint, Kohli has had an excellent outing in the World Cup. Not only has he captained the national team to the semis, but he has also done reasonably as a batsman. India finished the league stage on top of the points table with 15 points from nine matches. The Men in Blue beat Bangladesh by 28 runs at the Edgbaston in Birmingham to confirm a berth in the semis.

Prior to the semis, Kohli had racked up 442 runs at an average of 63.14 with a top score of 82 against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London in the group stage. He has as many as five half-centuries, but no century, something which is rare in Kohli’s case as he converts his starts more often than not. He will now try to help India win the championship and bring back the joy and jubilation of the 1983 and 2011 World Cup.
