The main draw of the ICC World T20 2016 is upon us and the most of the teams were declared in well advance. Fans of different teams wanted some or other favorites in their respective teams, but the selectors have seemed to do their homework and selected the best squad they think that can win the World T20.

So we bring to you, the squad ratings for the top 8 teams in the ICC World T20 2016 main draw:

The current defending champions Sri Lanka have been clubbed with West Indies, South Africa, England and Afghanistan from group 1.

Based on the current form, the Sri Lankan team will be looking for some form in the warm-up matches before the start of the World t20. Sri Lanka was defeated badly by the New Zealand team in New Zealand and then, they lost the T20I series in India 2-1, despite winning the first game in a great fashion. Then they found themselves out of the Asia Cup T20 final, after suffering losses at the hand of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The bad news doesn&#8217;t stop for them there, Lasith Malinga suffered a knee injury after the first game and sat out of the playing XI for the rest of the tournament and recently stepped down from the captaincy as well.

Only good news for them is the form of Dinesh Chandimal and the return of Lahiru Thirimanne in the squad. Chandimal was the only consistent and aggressive batsman in Sri Lanka side in the India series and the Asia Cup T20. While Thirimanne makes his return to the squad after a great run of form.

The squad looks good on paper, but most of the batsmen are low on confidence and if Malinga doesn&#8217;t get fit, they will only have Rangana Herath as an experienced bowler in the side. Anyways, Sri Lanka team will pose a threat to other teams in their group.

Pakistan has finally decided to allow its cricket team to visit India to play the World T20 2016, after the venue was changed from Dharamshala to Kolkata, amidst the protests by ex-army servicemen in Himachal Pradesh. Pakistan is in the group 2 with India, Australia, New Zealand and qualifier from group 2.

Pakistan’s problem is its top order with Mohammad Hafeez and Khurram Manzoor failing badly in the recently concluded Asia Cup. This led to Pakistan recalling Ahmed Shehzad into the playing XI. They also need to find a good spinner since both Yasir Shah and Saeed Ajmal are unavailable to them.

The good for them is bowling form of Mohd Amir and Mohd Irfan. Both of them, especially Amir impressed everyone with the speed and swing he got in the Asia Cup. Another good for them is the batting of Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal and Sarfraz Ahmed.

As ever, Pakistan’s inconsistency is its biggest enemy. Their bowling can bowl out any batting order in the world, but their batting order can fall like a pack of cards. Definite dark horses, if their batting clicks.

England has seen a rebirth of sorts in the limited overs cricket. They scored over 400 in limited overs cricket 2 times this year, one of their batsmen got one of the fastest hundreds in ODI cricket and they rose in the ranks in the T20 format.

Their bowling line-up, which has done well in England and South Africa so far, has no experience of bowling in Indian conditions.  Even their leg spinner and off-spinner are inexperienced when it comes to Indian conditions and will have get used to bowling here quickly.<strong>  </strong>

Their batting is top notch. Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler can destroy any attack on their day and small grounds in India will just help big hitters like them clear the boundary line with ease. Plus their confidence is on the high as they have seemed to understood how limited overs format works, under Trevor Bayliss.

Given their inexperience in Indian conditions and their batting lineup, England may very well be advancing into the semis if they can handle the spinner on Indian pitches.

The New Zealand team will be playing their first major ICC tournament without their charismatic leader and devastating opener Brendon McCullum. But they have the firepower in the form of Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Corey Anderson and Ross Taylor. They also have experience in the spin and pace department with Tim Southee and Nathan McCullum having played IPL in the past.

No Brendon McCullum.  Their batting and bowling both lack experience playing in Indian conditions and only players like Ross Taylor, Corey Anderson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Nathan McCullum have previously played in IPL.

Their batting is explosive with Guptill and Munro and later Anderson and Taylor providing impetus at the end of the innings. Though they will miss the services of Matt Henry, they have a potent pace bowling attack in Southee, Bolt, Milne and McClenaghan.

New Zealand will definitely make life difficult for teams in their group. They can go all the way this time, if they can simply combat the conditions and their own ability to believe that they can win.

The winners of the 2012 edition, the West Indies seemed to have their mind in the right direction, when their squad was announced recently. But it all fell apart for them even before they left for India and now they will be playing the World T20 with what looks like a weak side. Their only hope will be the IPL stars like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo.

The absence of Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo and Lendl Simmons, all of whom have lots of experience in playing in IPL and Indian conditions. Narine and Pollard are their trump cards and losing them to form and injury respectively, severely dampened their chances of an encore of their 2012 performance.

The good is that they still have the services of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Darren Sammy and Andre Russell, all of them can win West Indies a match on their own and have destructive records with both the bat and ball.

Weak bowling may hamper their chances, but if their batting clicks, you might just not know who they can defeat on their day. Semi-finals place looks very certain for the West Indies.

Australia is coming off a very successful tour of South Africa where they chased down a record total and won the series 2-1. This ultimately provided some relief after the 3-0 thrashing they got at the hands of India at home earlier this year. This proved that Australia is a team that should not be taken lightly and under the new leadership of Steven Smith, this team stands a chance to win the trophy.

Unlike Australia and South Africa, Indian pitches are slow and will turn from ball one. Apart from Steven Smith, Aaron Finch and to some extent Glen Maxwell, most of their batting struggles against quality spin, which incidentally both Pakistan and India possess in their arsenal in their group. Also, their bowlers might look good on pitches that give a bit of help, but on flat decks, they can look a bit dull.

You can have some of the biggest hitters of the game in Australian team like Finch, Maxwell, Watson and Faulkner to go with style and finesse of Khawaja and Smith. Also, their players have plenty of experience playing in IPL and are familiar with most of the venues of the World T20 2016.

If Australia can overcome their weakness against spin, they can surely look at winning the only trophy that has eluded them, the World T20 title.

South Africa perhaps has one of the best top orders in the tournament with Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers opening and then you have captain Du Plessis, JP Duminy, David Miller and Quinton de Kock coming in to take advantage of the final overs. Their bowling is one of the best with Steyn, Abbott and Tahir leading the way and Phangiso, Rabada and Wiese providing support.

The major problem for them is the surprisingly ordinary T20I record of AB de Villiers and JP Duminy recently. And also their supporting bowling line up. After Steyn, Rabada and Tahir, the support bowling of Abbott, Wiese and JP Duminy might not prove enough to control a good batting lineup.

The batting is the strength for South Africa and if any 3 of the top 5 batsmen click, you are looking at a score of over 180 easily. They have AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy and David Miller as their top six with David Wiese to follow.

South Africa presents one of the best squads of the tournament on paper and will go through to the semis, unless until they press the proverbial choke button and eliminate themselves from the tournament.

The hosts India have one of the most balanced playing XI and when players like Ajinkya Rahane sit out of the team, you can gauge for yourself how good the other players in the XI are performing. The best thing for India and Dhoni is the finds from the Australian T20I series, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Dhoni had been longing for a fast bowling all-rounder and a bowler who could bowl in death overs and both of his wishes have come true. The results were series wins against Australia and Sri Lanka and the Asia Cup T20.

Backup for seamers like Nehra and Bumrah is a returning Mohd Shami. He has been out of team India since last year’s ICC World Cup due to a knee injury and his form is completely unknown. If India has to go to Shami in case of any injury or loss of form to one of the quicks, how will he perform is a total surprise.
