Senior Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has made his stand clear on the upcoming Ranji knockout games and stated that he wouldn’t be part of them. The same has been confirmed by the Cricket Association of Bengal president Avishek Dalmiya after they requested the veteran to be part of the crucial fixtures for the state in the upcoming days.

It is to be noted that Saha wasn’t having a fine tune with his state in recent days and since the relations didn’t get better, this decision will bring an end to the wicketkeeper’s shining career with Bengal. He made his Ranji debut for the state in 2007 and went on to play 122 first-class and 102 List A games, collecting 6423 and 2762 runs respectively.

“The Cricket Association of Bengal wanted Wriddhiman Saha to play for Bengal at this crucial juncture, especially when Bengal would be fighting in the knockout stage in a bid to win the Ranji Trophy after becoming the top-ranked team in the country at the end of the Group Stage,” CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement as quoted by India Today.

We tried our best to convince Wriddhiman Saha: CAB President

Talking in light of the same events, it has been reported that Saha has also left the team’s official WhatsApp group in order to make it clearer that he has moved away from the Bengal team. A CAB official added that though the wicketkeeper-batter hasn’t yet asked for a NOC (No Objection Certificate), he will be given one in case he requests for the same.

“I had expressed this to Wriddhiman and had requested him to reconsider his decision. However, Wriddhiman has now communicated to us that he is not willing to play the Ranji Knockouts.”

“We tried our best to convince him, even through his childhood coach (Jayanta Bhowmick), but he has made up his mind not to play for Bengal again. The association will give him NOC as and when he asks for it,” he added.
