India are currently in England where they are playing a five-match Test series against Joe Root and Co. They lost the first two matches in Edgbaston and Lord’s respectively to go 0-2 down in the series. Following the horrendous drubbings, they needed some herculean efforts to turn their fortunes around. In the first two matches, the bowlers did exceedingly well.

However, the batsmen, barring Virat Kohli, couldn’t counter the English pace attack. Nevertheless, the visiting team made a strong comeback by winning the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham by a mammoth margin of 203 runs. Fortunately, this time around, the bowlers got appropriate support from the batters as India scored 300 plus runs in both their innings.

Can Virat’s men trump England in Southampton?

Kohli missed out on his 23rd Test ton in the first innings but accomplished the same in the second innings. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, and Hardik Pandya scored half-centuries and gave the bowlers a much-needed cushion of runs to work with. Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, who made a comeback following a thumb injury, notched five-wicket hauls.

The Three Lions looked rattled and was outplayed in every department. Nevertheless, despite the victory, India still find themselves in a tricky situation and need to replicate their form in the ongoing Test match at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton as well. They lost their last Test in their only appearance at the venue back in 2014 and would want to win their first Test in Southampton.

In the meantime, Wriddhiman Saha, who is currently recovering from a shoulder injury, wished Kohli and the Indian team prior to the crucial encounter. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Wishing all the best to Indian Cricket Team and @imVkohli bhai for the Test Match which has started today. #IndiaVsEngland.”
