With 146 runs on the board for the loss of just three wickets, Team India would have been happy with their batting display on Day 2 of the ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand. They were asked to bat first after Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Although the pitch was favouring the pacers, Team India embraced the challenge and made the Blackcaps bowlers work hard.

Skipper Virat Kohli was India’s stand-out performer on Day 2 as he scored 44 off 124 deliveries and stayed unbeaten at the crease. He was expected to convert his start into a big knock on the third day, and many even saw his much-awaited 71st international century on the way. Contrary to the expectations, the Indian captain couldn’t add a single run to his overnight score.

Facing his eighth delivery of the day, Kohli was bamboozled by an inswinging delivery from Kyle Jamison, and the red cherry smashed his pads. Impressed by the appeal, the umpire raised his finger and Kohli’s resilience was ended. The 32-year-old even challenged the decision and went upstairs, but the review showed the ball clearly hitting the stumps, and the talismanic cricket had to make a long walk back.

While the Indian camp was in dismay, the Kiwis were delighted, and Jamieson seemed to be on cloud nine after dismissing his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper. The right-arm pacer also received praises from different parts for his brilliant spell. However, some disgruntled Indian fans were expectedly not amused with the fast bowler’s performance, and one can visit Jamieson’s Instagram page to verify the fact.

Kyle Jamieson faces the heat

The pacer’s posts were flooded with nasty and abusive comments from Kohli fans. With Jamieson being a part of Kohli-led IPL team franchise RCB, several netizens also called out the Kiwi all-rounder for not doing ‘justice’ to his skipper. The Indian skipper is indeed a backbone of his side’s batting line-up, and his dismissal could be the turning point of the game. His fans are aware of this fact, and unfortunately, Jamieson faced the heat.

Meanwhile, India have also lost dashing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and Rahane. The conditions are indeed challenging for the batting side. However, India should look to cross the 250-run mark to be ahead in the contest.
