WTC final: Kane Williamson loses his concentration as a fan shouts 'Boring Kane'

India and New Zealand are producing a cracking game as they are up against each other in the final of the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. Day five of the historic Test match is witnessing some breathtaking action as both teams are fighting tooth and nail to become the World Test champions.

There is no doubt to the fact that the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is a calm and cool customer of the game. Williamson showed signs of brilliance in the first session of day five. The skipper showcased his class and temperament as he anchored the Kiwi innings well and played some attractive shots. 

New Zealand started the day with 102 for two with Kane and Ross Taylor walking in the middle. However, the Indian pace attack showed magnificent bowling as they asked some difficult questions from the opposition batters. The discipline showed by the Indian seamer resulted in New Zealand losing their three wickets in the first session in the form of Taylor, BJ Watling, and Henry Nicholls. 

While there was a flurry of wickets at one end, the skipper held the other end with a gritty knock. Williamson batted with a lot of patience before at a strike rate of below 20. However, there was an instance just before lunch when the captain cool lost his concentration and almost gifted his wicket to the Indian side.

The slow and steady approach by the Blackcaps skipper didn’t go well with some fans in the stadium as they sledged the batter by shouting ‘Boring Kane’. Generally, the players playing on the field don’t pay any attention to the cheering or booing by the fans. However, Kane allowed the chant of ‘Boring Kane’ get into his head and momentarily lost his focus.

The incident took place during an over by ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah. Losing his concentration, the Kiwi skipper tried to chase a wide delivery on the next ball. The 30-year-old was lucky to survive as he missed the ball. However, the right-hander made sure to not repeat the same mistake twice as he regained his composure and batted with full concentration.
