The ODI series was a sparkling one. The highlight of the series was AB de Villiers. De Villiers, in the second ODI ripped through the record books and hit a magical hundred off just 31 balls, breaking the record for the fastest century in ODIs. The Proteas continued their dominance in ODI series as well, winning it with a 4-1 scoreline. The feeble West Indies, however, turned into a powerful force as the T20 series arrived. South Africa lost to West Indies in the first two T20Is in which Chris Gayle started. However, Morne van Wyk’s unbeaten century in the last T20I paved way for a consolidating victory for them.<br>

South Africa was placed in the Group B along with India, Pakistan and West Indies and finished second in the group. Out of the six matches, they won four matches and lost only to India and Pakistan. They advanced to the semi-final after pounding Sri Lanka in the quarter-final to set the clash with New Zealand for the spot in the finals.

This was the most breathtaking ODI they played this year. Rain interrupted and New Zealand’s task became tougher as the target was revised to 298 off 43 overs. South Africa batted first and posted 281 runs. In reply, New Zealand began well but Dale Steyn &amp; Co. kept the competition on. Following the home series, South Africa went overseas to India for the Freedom series where they played 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs and 4 Tests. The limited overs format was successful. South Africa were clearly the better team in the T20Is as they convincingly won both the matches that could be played and took the series 2-0 since the third was a washout. The Proteas won the ODI series 3-2 after slamming India in the series decider at Mumbai. However, South Africa failed to overcome the most crucial challenge- Tests.
