Yo-yo test has been the most used word in the Indian cricket in2017. Team India‘s urge to become the fittest team in World Cricket has been down to the Yo-yo test. The management has made it a mandatory test for the aspiring players to get selected into the national team.

The board has set the aspirants a minimum of 16.1 a few months back, to get into the national team. However, as per the latest reports from Times of India, the management is decided to increase the minimum requirement from 16.1 to a few notches above at 16.5 or 17. Further, the management is gradually increasing the bar on fitness front keeping the 2019 Cricket World Cup in mind. However, 16.1 is still going to remain as the benchmark for the cricketers who are taking the test for the first time.

“Fitness has always been one of the key aspects associated with this team. There are discussions going on as to whether the benchmark could go a touch higher, say 16.5, to increase the fitness standards further. There has to be a progression in every aspect and fitness is no different. However, nothing has been finalised,” the source said.

Suresh Raina and Ravi Ashwin cleared the tests

However, Dinesh Karthik has urged all the young budding cricketers that the test is not as difficult as the media are claiming it. He said that the test is not ‘earth-shattering’ and any athlete would be able to complete it easily. Karthik, however, also mentioned that the Tests would get a little tougher as it starts crossing the 17.5 mark.

The test has not been restricted to the national team cricketers, as domestic cricketers too have tried their hand at clearing the tests. Recently, the likes of Suresh Raina and R Ashwin came out on Twitter on clearing the Yo-yo test. Raina failed to clear this test initially, however, as per the latest reports the left-handed batsman has cleared the test by a good margin.
