Kane Williamson, the New Zealand skipper, has been rested from Yorkshire’s lineup for this week’s county championship match due to “mental fatigue.” This is an alarming news for New Zealand who have a strenuous tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa lined up ahead.

New Zealand will be touring Zimbabwe and South Africa. The tour has an intense schedule of 14 tests, 19 one-day internationals and four T20I for the Black Caps till the end of March, Therefore, the new of Williamson being rested due to ‘mental fatigue’ is not ideal for the team.

But, New Zealand Cricket coach Mike Hesson isn’t too much concerned.  Speaking to reporters at Auckland Airport, Hesson said, “I read that this morning as well but I’ve spoken to Kane many times and he’s fine and very much looking forward to getting over there.”

The coach further responded to comments about Williamson’s fitness and questions regarding whether or not the international tours would go on as scheduled.

“It’ll be great for Kane. He’s captained New Zealand 36 times but it’ll be his first test match and a special occasion.”

Hesson says that Williamson, who will be his country’s 29th Test skipper, will have the senior men for his support and guide him through.

“We’ve got a number of leaders in the group, Tim [Southee] being one of them. That’s the strength of the group is that it won’t be left up to Kane. There will be a number of different people contributing.”
