India recently defeated England in the 2nd Test match of the series at the Lord’s in the most clinical manner. The performance by India’s tail and bowling department came marching at another level to script a historic win for India. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli backed his men and came one to one while any of the on-field chatters got heated at the moment.

It is known to all that the intensity and passion Kohli shows on the field is second to none. It clearly shows the importance he gives to the purest format of the game and in the same light, former English cricketer Kevin Pietersen expressed his thoughts on him. The former England great added that Kohli’s heroes are Dravid and Tendulkar and he puts in great efforts to follow their footsteps.

“Virat Kohli is fantastic for Test cricket. Knowing Virat Kohli the way that I do, I know the huge impetus he puts on following in the footsteps of his heroes. His heroes are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and other legends of Test match cricket,” said Pietersen in his blog for Betway.

“You can see by his enthusiasm, intensity, and the way he rallies his troops. Test cricket still means everything to him. Kohli knows that to be considered a legend of the game, he needs to deliver in this format as well as in T20. That’s why he puts so much importance on this format and at a time when Test cricket needs all the love it can get, how good is it to see a global superstar so passionate about it,” he added.

It has to be noted that Kohli is currently going through a rough patch in his career as far as his batting is considered. A century from his end is long-awaited which last came in 2019 against Bangladesh. He was even expected to score big in the Lord’s Test but returned with scores of 42 and 20 in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. Having said that, the energy and will he shows on the field keeps his teammates moving with all the enthusiasm.
